Stocks Ease, Yields Rise

Wall Street closed the week on a subdued note Friday, with all three major benchmarks drifting into the red. The S&P 500 slipped 13 points to 7,785.76, a loss of 0.17%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gave back 107 points to 53,732.41. The Nasdaq Composite fared worst of the trio, shedding 0.28% to settle at 26,729.16.

The real story, though, unfolded in the bond market. Treasury yields climbed across the curve, with the benchmark 10-year note up about five basis points to 4.696%. The long end felt the heat most — the 30-year yield pushed up to 5.265%, a level that keeps fixed-income investors on edge about where rates head next.

Energy was the day's clear bright spot. Crude oil rallied more than 1% to $82.40 a barrel, extending a steady grind higher as supply worries linger.

Gold held firm too, ticking up roughly $17 to $4,437.30 an ounce. The yellow metal has been quietly carving out fresh highs this summer, and Friday's advance suggests the appetite for safety hasn't faded even with equities wobbling only slightly.

Bitcoin traded essentially flat near $63,018, showing little urge to break out in either direction. In currency markets, the euro firmed to 1.1573 against the dollar, a modest move that nudged the greenback lower even as Treasury yields rose.

In short, a session without fireworks. Equities barely budged, commodities flexed, and the bond market reminded everyone that higher-for-longer remains the default assumption.
